Kevin’s Bicycling Update: 1000 miles achieved

August 2nd, 2006

I’m pleased to announce that with today’s 28 mile ride, I have now pedaled over 1,000 miles on my road bicycle (plus another 105 miles on the mountain bike, actually).   Please continue for my July Cycling log:

Coming from a very tough month of training in June where I rode 437 miles, including the 70 mile Wheel to Weston ride, I knew that July would hold many distractions and I would simply try to maintain my fitness.  Between work, visits from friends and family, and the hottest weather I can remember, July proved to be a difficult time for MS150 training.

However, i did manage to meet my agenda of maintaining my fitness.

June: My Weight: 179lbs  (loss of 7)
Miles for June: 437, including extending my longest single ride to 70 miles.

July: My Weight: 177lbs  (loss of 2)
Miles for July: 159, scheduled between 100+ degree days, a full month of house guests, and of course maintaining work obligations.

Best Park Sprint (16.2 miles):
27:30 sprint @ 17.6 mph (slowing 2 minutes and 1.3 mph from last month)
59:44 overall @ 16.17 mph (only 10 seconds below my record pace in June!)

Best River Run (28.35 miles):
54:45 out at 15.6 mph
1hr 55 min, 30 seconds overall at 14.7 mph
This is slightly faster than my May 30th run, and off the pace of my June times.
While I’m not pleased to announce these slow times, I knew this would happen based upon my limited riding time.

Certainly not nearly as impressive as June, when i ride 437 miles and lost 7 pounds, July was still a positive month as I achieved my goal of maintaining my fitness.

I’m also pleased to announce that with the ride I just completed, I have put 1,000 miles on my Lemond road bike.  Back in March when i bought the bicycle, 1,000 miles was my goal for the year.  I have since extended my goal to 1500 miles, and then recently I decided to raise it again to 1800 miles so that I have a challenge!
