Kevin Barber’s Bicycling Update - August
August 31st, 2006August was a great month for my riding - I’m pleased with where I sit just 1 week before the MS150!
July: Miles: 159 | Weight: 177lbs (loss of 2)
August: Miles: 324 | Weight: 171lbs - a loss of 6!
In addition to riding on several fast paced and “more difficult” training rides, i’ve also improved my personal records yet again!
Best River Run (28.35 miles):
48 min out at 17.7 mph (a new record!)
1hr 43 min, 30 seconds overall at 16.5 mph (improving over 5 min and .9 mph!)
For anyone interested, here is what cycling does for your health:
March 6th I bought my bicycle and weighed in at 193lbs. My first river run took 2 hrs and 26 minutes.
Now we’re at the end of August, and I’ve shaved over 45 minutes from my first river run (improving 4.9mph!). More than that, in the past 6 months I’ve ridden 1403 miles and lost 22 pounds! That works out to one pound lost for every 64 miles I ride. Not to mention I’ve definitely packed on some leg muscle - big time!
I also feel better, sleep less, my brain works faster, and I’m generally in a better mood. What a deal!
Please consider sponsoring my MS150 effort, the 150 mile event is getting close at Sept 9th and 10th!
If you’d like, visit my National MS Society MS150 website and make a pledge online!
I’m also excited to have met my goal to where by the end of the MS150 I will have trained for more than 1500 miles! My track record suggests that I’ll lose another 3 pounds or so, which will put me into the 160’s… territory I have not seen for some time!
Have a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend!
