IE7 Now Available

October 20th, 2006

Microsoft announced recently that the new IE7 would be available this month, and sure enough it is.

I downloaded the 14.8 MB file in just a few moments and installed in less than a minute.

Just looking around, I notice browsing tabs and easy bookmarking of RSS feeds, copying these features from Firefox.

I’m very pleased to see that only one of my sites needed any real fixing (that I’m aware of), and that was due to some IE6 hacks placed on that site.

I did like that you can easily get add-ons (both free and paid) at http://www.ieaddons.com/default.aspx?cid=home&scid=0

Overall I feel that IE7 is an improvement (seems faster and I like tabs and RSS feed bookmarking), but this will not be enough to bring back FireFox users… especially with Firefox 2.0 in the not too distant future.

Download IE7 at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx

It will be interesting to see who agrees with me, and whether the trend continues to use Firefox over IE.
My site currently has 49% IE users (0.8% using IE7), and 39% Firefox users.
Of course i get a lot of ‘browser smart’ users… mostly other web designers/developers.

My most trafficed customer receives 87% of his visitors from IE… and of course the 82.8% of those users with IE6 will almost definitely be upgrading to IE7 very soon as Microsoft plans to release IE7 as part of an upcoming security update.
